Is pluralism really the goal?

Over the last week or so, this thought has been in my mind. We hear so much about pluralism in our society, how certain members of society value pluralism while others in society see pluralism as a threat to their existence. But I have been left to wonder recently if pluralism is the right goal that we need to be striving for, or if we have set up pluralism to actually fail by having an unrealistic expectation of what pluralism would provide.

So how have I gotten to this place?
