During Lent we gathered to discuss Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow. We had a lively discussion about race in the United States and how we can potentially address some of the issues we recognize are prevalent in our society. We will be holding a follow up discussion on Wednesday, June 7th at 7:30 pm at GPC to continue on our reflection.
At the last gathering, we decided to reach out to communities that we have relationships with to create dialogue on the issue of race. The two communities are the West Kensington Ministry and New Spirit Presbyterian Church which is located in SW Philadelphia and is part of the Common Place a ministry of Wayne Presbyterian Church.
Looking ahead, we have also arranged for St. Senator Daylin Leach to come and speak with us on Wednesday, June 21st at 7:30 pm. Sen. Leach sits on the Judiciary and Education Committees and has been active dealing with issues of race and discrimination in our public education systems and criminal justice system.
Please try to come out to these events.
