Discovery Update: Souper Bowl Sunday

This week at GPC we had our annual Souper Bowl Sunday, where members of the co

ngregation get together to enjoy a meal of soup in our community room! As part of this, us at Discovery always use this opportunity as a fundraiser for a worthy cause. This year, we chose to use our time to gather donations of socks for Broad Street Ministry. These socks go to the homeless that they provide for to help them thru the cold winter. We set a lofty goal of 500 pairs, and not only did we exceed our goal, but we raised an additional $165! Broad Street Ministry has asked that this go to the purchase of personal hygiene items to be given out as well. I am so proud of these kids and all that they have accomplished, and I know I’m not the only one! But it couldn’t have been done without the help of the members of our community. A big thank you to everyone who took part, from those who took the time to set up and make the soup to those who donated socks and money, no part of this event could have been what it was without you!

In the morning, we took the time to decorate the boxes that we were going to collect the socks in. Here are some photos for you all to see our awesome kids at work!

Coming up, some members of Discovery are beginning our program with Walking the Walk which will help educate them on matters of Interfaith. They will learn about different Faith traditions and also how to best continue community building between us all instead of building walls which might divide us.

Very excited for the great things ahead, so stay tuned for more as we go about 2018!
