COALESCE: A time of connection in community:

We are reading John Phillip Newell’s, The Rebirthing of God: Christianity’s Struggle for the New Beginnings.  It is good if you can read ahead of time, but is certainly not a prerequisite for listening and engaging in the seminar-like environment.

Last Sunday, October 27 we had our community breakfast.  Items that were highlighted was a repeat performance of the  We Are All Connected, a song made up of sampling scientists’ quotes on the interconnectedness of the person, humanity, nature and the universe, it  is part of the Symphony of Science musical project of John D Boswell, a project that aims to raise awareness of scientific and philosophical knowledge in musical form.  Scientists Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Feynman, Bill Nye and Carl Sagan offered many thoughts, some of which are the following: 1-“We are all connected…to each other, biologically…to the earth, chemically…to the rest of the universe, atomically. 2-I know that the molecules in my body are traceable to phenomena in the cosmos. That makes me want to grab people in the street and say, have you heard this? 3-The beauty of a living things is not the atoms that go into it, but the way those atoms are put together.

We then chanted: Whichever way we turn, Whichever way we turn, Whichever way we turn, there is the face of God

The group indulged Mark in his simplistic mantra meditation, as we all “chanted” Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, reminding us of the wonder of God’s creation in the stars of the universe.

Reading and discussion for Sunday, November 3: Read and discuss Chapter 4: Reconnecting with the Journey. A primary feature of our reconnection with God involves a reconnecting with the journey, both the inward and outward.   For a portion of our time together we will continue to hear Newell at the Harvard Divinity School Conference.
